Color: A white to off white sapwood, with a brown heartwood. Sometimes light brown streaks will be present in sapwood.
Uses: Cabinetry, furniture, interior shutters, wood carvings, and mouldings. Has a very "light" grain pattern. Ideal for painting or staining. Can also be used as a substitute for Mahogany (when stained). in the Ash species).
Workability: Easy to work with; machines/mills well. Considered to be a "soft" lumber, as it is not very strong. Lumber may have a tendency to "move" a little.
Plywood: Only available by special order. White poplar ply is a good substitute.
Additional Info: Lumber very rarely comes any wider than 7" or 8" and is typically very narrow. |
